Good and Evil

The wolf that you feed is the wolf that will win; the emotions that you feed are the emotions that will win. Because the wolf that you starve can’t survive, just like the emotions that you starve can’t survive. A starved wolf can’t carry on a fight with a well fed one.

(stretch ??) The wording in english for good and evil are about the heart:

To define evil, you first need to distinguish it from tragedy.
Evil is a “demonically warped aesthetic”.

Goodness doesn’t exist in everyone.
Evil can be disguised by niceness.

Quotes

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”
The grand son thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee replied: “The one you feed.”

1: First we overlook evil.
2: Then we permit evil.
3: Then we legalize evil.
4: Then we promote evil.
5: Then we celebrate evil.
6: Then we persecute those who still call it evil.

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
– Desmond Tutu

The price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.
– Plato

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
– Edmund Burke (??)

The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.
– Albert Einstein

Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.
– Haile Selassie

If you think there is good in everybody, you haven’t met everybody.
– George Carlin

The only good is knowledge.
The only evil is ignorance.
– Herodot

We can establish two absolutely non-negociable facts about the nature of pure evil. We know that an evil person accepts no responsibility whatsoever for their own disfunctional anti-human actions. This means that unlinke other people, when they act in unloving manner, they do not acknoledge it, or take responsibility for the consequences or their act. Indeed, in their minds, the other person is responsible. If they feel sad, or broken, it’s their affair. There’s no empathic resonance with the suffering of the other person and no accountability. Indeed, the evil person imagines that it is the other person’s own actions that have lead to their despair and undoing. Since this is often true to a point, the evil person’s retorts and abose may go unseen. It’s not so much that these vampires think that they’re better than other people, as they hardly think of other people at all, unless they need something.

Understanding animal morality

https://bigthink.com/the-well/primate-behavior
95% of your behavior is primate behavior
Frans de Waal has studied the behavior of primates for five decades. Some of his many important observations center around the evolution of morality and just how much we have in common with the animal kingdom.
The idea that animals are always in conflict with one another and competing for resources is “totally wrong” de Waal says.
Other primates, specifically chimpanzees and bonobos, have demonstrated a range of traits and tendencies typically regarded as human, including empathy, friendship, reconciliation, altruism, and adoption.

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is…

The truth is that evil survives by tricking the good into doing its will. Without thousands of basically decent people confused enough to obey, evil would fail quickly.
The great tragedy of our era is the extent to which evil has been successful in convincing people to service it. Good people having yielded their wills arm evil, accommodate evil, and acquiesce to its actions.
These people wouldn’t initiate murders by themselves, but in the name of duty, loyalty, unity, and/or the greater good, they cooperate with evil and give it their strength. Each plays a small part — none of them stretches so far that they’d have to contemplate the final effects of their actions.
