FreedomBox

Easy to manage, privacy oriented home server
Global project to empower regular people to reassert control over the infrastructure of the internet.
FreedomBox empowers its users to avoid the data mining, censorship and surveillance by centralized silos that characterize the web of today.
It makes web servers personal, affordable and manageable, so that a user can host necessary web services at home on a device they own, powered by free software they can trust.
All applications on FreedomBox are installed as Debian packages. The FreedomBox project itself distributes its software through Debian repositories.

LibraryBox

LibraryBox is an open source, portable digital file distribution tool based on inexpensive hardware that enables delivery of educational, healthcare, and other vital information to individuals off the grid

Regain control over your data. Communicate with others off-grid, broadcast Bitcoin and Monero transactions, sync your full-node and more, without internet
The Locha Mesh uses long-range radio connections in the ISM band (915 MHz in America, 868 MHz EU), in this band you can transmit encrypted data at a theoretical speed of ~200 kilobits per second (kbit/s).

Forum closed, Matthias not working on the project anymore:

When I started to help out at the project at January 2011, I had no idea where this journey will end. With my understanding of Linux, I decided to help an open source project…
By now, November 2019, I am not able to devote any freetime on the project, which results in many many unanswered questions, suggestions and comments. The development stream is in a kinda-good shape, but I don’t find time to push a beta or stable release. My personal situation does not allow a freetime project in that dimension anymore.

Goals of the PirateBox project:

  1. PirateBox provides easy file sharing and messaging over a local area network

  2. PirateBox is designed to educate the public and make them aware about online censorship, surveillance and freedom of speech

  3. PirateBox truly respects privacy and thus does not collect any access or connection logs from its users

  4. PirateBox has an educational purpose and aims to teach about computer programming and computer networks

  5. PirateBox network (AP) should be open, and use open networking standards to allow communication with other users
