The Law of Freedom

Freedom and Morality are directly proportional.
As morality increases, freedom increases.
As morality declines, freedom declines.

Freedom cannot be achieved in a society that embraces moral relativism (the idea that humans can arbitrarily create or decide what is Right and Wrong).

Quotes

Freedom is not a reward for compliance. That’s how jail works.
– Anon

Freedom is the power to say no.
– James Clear

Liberty is meaningless where the right to utter one’s thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. It is the right which they first of all strike down.
– Frederick Douglass

You will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make a good use of it.
– John Adams

The liberties of our Country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.
We have received them as a fair Inheritance from our worthy Ancestors: They purchased them for us with toil and danger and expence of treasure and blood; and transmitted them to us with care and diligence.
It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle; or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.
– Samuel Adams

Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.
– Henry David Thoreau

So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men.
– Voltaire

Every command slaps liberty in the face.
– Mikhail Bakunin

When the same man, or set of men, holds the sword and the purse, there is an end of liberty.
– George Mason

Most people want security in this world, not liberty.
– Henry Louis Mencken: American journalist, 1880-1956

Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
– Benjamin Franklin

Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.
– John F. Kennedy

My definition of a free society is a society where it is safe to be unpopular.
– Adlai E. Stevenson

When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw.
– Nelson Mandela

Freedom is not the absence of commitments, but the ability to choose - and commit myself to - what is best for me.
– Paulo Coelho

Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.
– Benjamin Franklin

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be.
– Thomas Jefferson

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
– Abraham Lincoln

The basic test of freedom is perhaps less in what we are free to do than in what we are free not to do.
– Eric Hoffer

Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it.
– Pericles

Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.
– Sigmund Freud

People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.
– Søren Kierkegaard

It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.
– Voltaire

Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think.
But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.
– Thomas Paine, Rights of Man, 1791

At a concert on Saturday night, Sting said to his live audience:

Democracy is under attack. It’s under attack in every country in the world. It’s in grave danger of being lost unless we defend it.
The alternative to democracy is a nightmare, a prison, of the mind. That alternative is tyranny. All tyranny is based on a lie. The greater the tyranny, the bigger the lie.
Disagree with the tyrant and you risk imprisonment, torture and death. Yet that is what we must do, all of us. We must protect our right to speak the truth.
The war in the Ukraine is an absurdity, based upon a lie. If we swallow that lie, the lie will eat us. The lie is terrified of the truth.
We must not lose this battle!

To know freedom is to know Nature. Living in harmony with Nature leads to peace, prosperity, knowledge, truth, action, and freedom. Living in opposition to Nature leads to war, control, ignorance, fear, stagnation, and enslavement.
