Censorship and freedom
Everyone values their freedom, in fact, many consider it so important that they will die for it. People like to think that they are free to form and hold whatever opinions they like, particularly in western countries. Consider now that someone had the ability to control the information you have access to. This would give them the ability to manipulate your opinions by hiding some facts from you, by presenting you with lies and censoring anything that contradicted those lies. This is not some Orwellian fiction, it is standard practice for most western governments to lie to their populations, so much so, that people now take it for granted, despite the fact that this undermines the very democratic principles which justify the government’s existence in the first place.

Former NZ PM Ardern urges United Nations to ‘Crack down on free speech as a weapon of war’

Ardern is now one of the leading anti-free speech figures in the world and continues to draw support from political and academic establishments.
In her latest attack on free speech, Ardern declared free speech as a virtual weapon of war.
She is demanding that the world join her in battling free speech as part of its own war against “misinformation” and “disinformation.”
In her speech, she notes that we cannot allow free speech to get into the way of fighting things like climate change. She notes that they cannot win the war on climate change if people do not believe them about the underlying problem.
The solution is to silence those with opposing views. It is that simple.
While some of us have denounced her views as an attack on free expression, Harvard rushed to give her not one but 2 fellowships.

The anti-free speech movement has become openly Orwellian in claiming to protect freedom by limiting freedom. It also employs using terms like disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation to obscure their effort to silence those with opposing views. Rather than use “censorship,” they refer to “content moderation”.

Not so fast Elon: Europe warns Musk he must hire hundreds of moderators to limit free speech

At a time when Musk is cutting hundreds if not thousands of workers on a weekly basis, early on Friday Europe delivered some unexpected news to the world’s richest man: according to Thierry Breton, the EU’s internal market commissioner, Musk will have to increase the number of moderators in Europe, a continent which long ago gave up all pretense of having free speech.
Breton added that Musk “will have to open his algorithms. We will have control, we will have access, people will no longer be able to say rubbish.”
By “rubbish” he meant anything that Europe’s unelected technocrats disagree with, which these days is anything not endorsed by the World Economic Forum.
Breton earlier warned that Twitter would have to “fly by our rules” shortly after Musk closed his $44 billion takeover last month.

China social media censorship

Chinese social media companies and users are locked in a never-ending battle between free speech and censorship
In 2018, #MeToo, the hashtag people around the world use to discuss sexual harassment, was blocked on social media in China
Internet users in the country formed a new hashtag to keep raising awareness. They used the characters for rice (米, pronounced “mí”) and bunny (兔, pronounced “tù”)
They even used emoji to represent the phrase - a clever and more effective way to dodge the censors #🍚🐰
Wherever there is censorship and control, there is resistance. There is no end to it. That’s how social life is.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced it has recruited hundreds of thousands of “information warriors” to control the internet, policing social media and forums for “misinformation” and conspiracy content which will then be systematically shut down.
According to Klaus Schwab’s WEF, misinformation on the internet is an “infodemic” that is “potentially deadly” and requires a “cure” The definition of misinformation, according to the WEF, is anything they disagree with. This means the information warriors will essentially be engaged in the act of shutting down dissent.

Meta thinks Facebook may need more “harmful health misinformation”

The oversight board is now fielding public comments on potential policy change
By Ashley Belanger, posted 7/27/2022

Facebook is constantly censoring information on their platform, based on the opinions of their “fact checkers”.
Way before changing its name to Meta, Facebook spent the year before the pandemic “taking steps” to crack down on anti-vax misinformation spread. Those steps are similar to steps that Clegg is suggesting are appropriate to revert back to now. In 2019, the company started fact-checking more posts with misinformation, limiting the reach of some, and banning ads with misinformation.
