About Google Chrome

Please stop using Google Chrome.

There’s a ton of other browsers you can use with the same features, without exposing yourself to the Google spyware.

I used Firefox since forever. In the past I used Chromium, Vivaldi, Opera, Brave, Safari and Edge, sometimes for months, but I always switched back to Firefox.
I’m not a Firefox fanboy, I just like it more than the other options. I will still try other browsers, because I get bored.

I still use Chromium for work. All the work related websites are in there, but my personal mail and websites are in my (hardened) Firefox.

In case you don’t know what’s the difference between Chrome and Chromium:

  • Chromium is an open source browser written in C++, that uses the Blink browser engine and V8 JavaScript engine
  • Chrome is based on Chromium, but Google adds a number of proprietary, closed-source features to their Chrome browser: usage tracking and statistics, crash reporting, and others that we can’t really inspect, some extra video codecs
  • Vivaldi, Opera, Brave, Edge and many other browsers are also based on Blink and V8 engines and have all the features you need in a moderm browser
